Charcoal

My Relationship with Charcoal

Charcoal was the first medium I learned when beginning my study of traditional art. Large-scale charcoal drawings are time-consuming and messy but so worth the effort. With this medium, I try to focus on very dramatic lighting situations and dynamic movement.

I start with delicate Willow charcoal before moving on to compressed charcoal for my darkest areas.
